Living in Amsterdam

Luxury Real Estate

Amsterdam combines a city that is easy to get around with an identity shaped by water, cycling and distinctive neighbourhoods. Beyond the historic centre, the city extends into former harbour areas, shopping streets, markets and parks. Living in Amsterdam means finding the right balance between access to the centre and a daily rhythm that can be cosmopolitan, peaceful or a little of both.

The canals and narrow houses with their ornate façades create Amsterdam’s most familiar image. Along the canal ring and in the Jordaan, small bridges, hidden courtyards and residential streets sit alongside cafés, independent shops and cultural venues. It is an area where history can be felt around every corner, while everyday life continues right outside the front door.

Neighbourhoods with a character of their own

Each neighbourhood offers a different way to experience the city. De Pijp brings together market stalls, cafés and lively streets; Amsterdam Oost combines green spaces with a varied cultural and food scene; and Noord reveals a changing waterfront, connected to the centre by ferry across the IJ. This variety makes it possible to choose between a central setting, a neighbourhood routine or a closer connection to the water.

Cycling is part of the daily rhythm, supported by trams, the metro, buses and ferries crossing the IJ. Between journeys, there are places to slow down: Vondelpark invites walks and bike rides beneath the trees, while parks such as Westerpark combine green spaces with cafés and cultural activities. This close relationship between transport, leisure and nature is one of the city’s most distinctive features.
